Meet Your Pet Portrait Artist
My name is Mark Kingston and my mission is to immortalise your pets unique personality. I have been passionate about art and pets since my early childhood. My work has been featured in national galleries both in Australia and overseas.
So you want a pencil portrait of your dog from a photo or your favourite cats best features captured? I have been creating custom pet portraits for over 10 years. The process is explained in detail below but to put it simply you send in a photo of your pet. We discuss how to best present it including the artwork size and I go ahead and create your unique work of art.
You can view my paintings as well as my pencil work throughout this website. I know I can capture the unique charm and character of your special pet.
In addition to hand drawn pet portraits I can also extend this service to full size oil pet portrait paintings by special request. This includes animal portrait painting and of course dog portrait painting. The paintings are photo realistic oil paintings, a medium I specialise in. How do you commision a portrait of you dog, cat, horse or even beloved hamster?
The process is simple and designed to get the best out of your custom pet pictures
1. Choose some of your best pet photos and email them to me. Include any description of your pets character you can so I can get a better feel for his or her personality. High quality photos will ensure that I can create strong and realistic animal portraits. Please email me if you need specific image guidelines.
2. In the email include what size you are looking for and whether you prefer colour or graphite pencil. A full price list and range of options can be viewed below.
3. Please also mention if you have any specific deadlines such as a birthday or anniversary as I have to fit each commission in my schedule.
4. Once I have received your email and returned to you with any questions, I will then invoice you for a 40% deposit. Once this is received I will email you with an estimated completion date.
5. On completion of your portrait I will email you a photo of the finished portrait for your approval.
6. Upon full satisfaction with the finished portrait you will be invoiced for the final balance.
7. Courier delivery can be arranged Australia wide. International clients can request a courier quote before we commence the project.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I arrange Framed Pet Portraits?
I can offer the pet portraits framed for an additional cost. For example framed versions of the 40x 30cm graphite pencil pet portraits are $400.00, for the full image and the frame. The frame would be the same as the black frames pictured in the ‘drawings for sale page’, with a double matte of grey and white.
Can I have a full body pet portrait?
Normally it is better to focus on your pets face as this can better capture their unique character. If however you are interested in this service please contact me first as some images are not suitable for full body portraits.
Can you do pet and owner portraits?
Yes on request. These of course involve a lot more time so please contact me with a specific photos and we can discuss your needs.
Can you add backgrounds for pet portraits?
In most cases this detracts from the image of your loved one. If however you would prefer this approach please contact me and we can discuss whether this would be suitable for the image you have in mind.

I can arrange a full electronic gift certificate ready to present to your loved one on their special day or simply to say you love them!
Is there a discount for multiple Pencil Drawings?
Want your whole extended family immortalised. This is a common request especially with dog portrait art. Yes I can do this for a discounted price and in a similar style so they can adorn any wall together in style. It is best if all images in this case are presented in the same format or they can look awkward together on the wall.
Do you do Wildlife Art?
Yes of course cat and dog lovers are not the only pet lovers out there. I am happy to work with any animals you are lucky enough to call your friend.
Why is this better than Digital Pet Portraits Australia?
If you are asking this question then this might not be the right service for you. This is a unique one off piece, hand drawn with passion. A digital print is not very different from a blown up photograph. Still attractive perhaps but not at all the same thing.
Cost of Pet Portraits
I try to be very upfront with my costs with no hidden surprises. Below I have published a list of standard prices. Once agreed I will not deviate from these prices even if the work takes me longer than anticipated.
